Born in beautiful Guadalajara Mexico, Irlanda grew up in Kitimat and knows what it is like to live and love small communities. She is a true northerner at heart. Irlanda credits her parents for her work ethic, and specifically, her mom for her determination and confidence. Irlanda is married to Rob Price and has two sons, ages 10 and 3, and a daughter who is 6. Graduating with a Bachelors degree in Social Work from the University of Northern British Columbia opened many doors for her on both a personal and professional level. Irlanda is currently the Academic Advisor for the Northwest Community College Terrace campus. She was recently elected as Vice-Chair for the Education Council for Northwest Community College. Irlanda has now found her niche in working within the realm of adult education and feels that her commitment to her employer and most importantly, to her students, will open up more exciting opportunities in the future. Irlanda is very active in her community and sits on numerous boards. She is currently a director of the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce, and serves as the chair for the communications committee for the Chamber. Co-owner James has lived in Terrace since 2004. He moved to Terrace when his wife, Kirsten, accepted a position as a pharmacist with northern health care. Together they have a 2 1/2 year old son, William. I n 2007, James and his business partner Lance purchased the Artful Cup; renovated and rebranded it the Elephant's Ear. It was while working downtown that James saw the problems of aggressive panhandling, public intoxication, etc. Along with Lance, James drew up petition and successfully lobbied city council in summer '08, asking from the RCMP detachment to return two positions previously frozen and commence a uniformed bike patrol in the downtown core. James would like to see more investment in our community both publicly and privately. James supports the "re-branding" of Terrace and investing in infrastructure to increase the possibility of outside investment. James is also a member of the Library Board
CGA, CFP I have been involved with the small business community since 1983, when I first started a home based accounting practice. That practice outgrew the home office in 1987, and is now located in the 4734 Park Avenue , where I think renovations are almost complete. Over the years I have volunteered with many organizations, the best known of which is the Rotary Club of Terrace where I have held the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and President. I hope to apply what I have learned from my small business clients and my work with other volunteer organizations in support of the excellent work the Chamber does in this community
Advertising I have been in the Sales and Marketing field for 24 years where I started working for Thompson Newspapers in Penticton . I also spent some time in Real Estate and offset printing. When I arrived in Terrace I worked for Blue Ridge Ventures a graphics and promotional company. After selling my shares in the company my family and I left Terrace for a year to work for my current employer Black Press Ltd. in Kamloops , B.C. I have been with our local paper The Terrace Standard for 7 years. My community involvement since I arrived back in Terrace has been with the Chamber of Commerce Board of director's and I currently sit as the Chair of the Terrace Economic Development Authority. I was pleased to help the community in my capacity as chair of Minerals North 2007 which showcased Terrace to the mining industry. Having attended several dozen meetings over the last year to help discover how to move the economy forward, we are still trying to find our niche in the more vibrant provincial economy. I look forward to working with this new exciting Chamber Board in the capacity of interim, one year president. I will continue to work hard to make the economy in Terrace a vibrant place to work, live and play.
